My Favorite Things, Part Three: Willow!

Photo by Josh Rickey, Canine Adventure
Since Valentine's Day is right around the corner, today's post is dedicated to my girlfriend and best friend, Willow Xenakis.   (Please note that my "My Favorite Things" posts are not listed in order of preference!  I simply write about whatever favorite thing I am thinking about at the time, and I've been thinking about Willow since I haven't seen her in a while.)

Mom and Dad say that best friends make the absolute BEST girlfriends, boyfriends, life partners, and spouses -- and I think they are right.

Willow and I have LOTS of fun together.

Willow is super-fun to play with

Playing in the James River

Waiting for the ball
Me, Willow and Charlie playing in the river
Me and Willow in James River mud (that's TWO of my favorite things)
Charlie, Willow, Sylvie, and me at Pocahontas State Park
Willow loves water as much as I do

She is beautiful
I love her ears, and the little brown spots over her eyes

She is thoughtful

She is caring
(Willow volunteers as a Caring Canine therapy dog
and as a VCU Medical Center Dog on Call.)

Willow and her mom and dad have been a huge help at Dog Scout fundraisers

Willow at a child's birthday party where our Dog Scout troop did tricks and agility demos

She is smart
Willow, Gauis, and me practicing down-stays-in-a-row at Stony Point Mall
Paisley, Gauis, Juneau, me and Willow
practicing down-stays-in-a -row in tricks class

She is extremely athletic (in fact, she can FLY!)

She doesn't mind when I'm silly (well, at least not too much)

We can relax together

We can even be silly together
"Hey Willow, let's drive mom crazy by refusing to look at the camera!"
"This is fun!"

We really enjoy doing things we love together

I think Willow walks on water

I even let her have the couch when she comes to visit

I'm very lucky to have such a great friend and girlfriend, and we're lucky that our parents take us hiking together, and take us to tricks classes and Dog Scout activities, and therapy dog visits, and all the fun and interesting things we get to do.

  1. Errrm Garth....Hero has asked me to ask you if its OK if Willow comes to stay at our house....knowing she's your girlfriend and all that!!!!He says he most certainly does NOT want to upset the King of Tricks....and he was wondering if you might be able to come round for a visit or go for a hike while she is here?

    1. Dad asked me if I wrote this because I was feeling insecure in my relationship with Willow, since she will be spending a few nights at your house. I assured him I am not at all insecure and it's perfectly okay that she is staying with your family. I know you will be keeping a close eye on Hero -- and I know Willow won't tolerate any funny business. I'm actually very glad Willow is staying with you because I think she will be very happy there and will LOVE going on regular hikes with you. Are you planning to hike on Saturday or Sunday? If so, when and where?

  4. She is a super pal! Reminds me a little of my ole pal swissie. She crossed over the bridge a year ago. While I like most doggies she was one who was a real friend. You are lucky you get to see willow so much! Pretty girl!

    1. Thank you Moose. Yes, I am definitely a lucky pup. I think it helps that my parents approve of Willow and enjoy hiking with her parents. Willow's mom is a really cool mom.
