We're Taking the 30/30 Challenge!

My friends at YouDidWhatWithYourWeiner.com recently came up with a great idea.  It's called the 30/30 Challenge.  The goal of the 30/30 Challenge is to walk 30 minutes per day for the next 30 days, beginning on New Year's Day.

It's true we do a lot of hiking on weekends, and we try to walk every day during the week too.  But we don't always walk every day.  This time of year, it's cold and dark when momma gets home from work, and sometimes she just wants to come home and curl up on the couch with me where it's cozy and warm.  I'm okay with that because I get mid-day walks daily and super-fun adventure hikes on Wednesdays, but of course I like having another walk in the evening, and momma really needs it.  She needs the exercise but she also just needs to get outside to clear her head.  And once she puts on her 27 layers of polartec and all of our flashing equipment, and we get out walking, she's always glad we did.  She doesn't mind the cold if she's properly bundled and moving, but sometimes it's hard for her to get started.

So we're doing the 30/30 Challenge for my mom -- as a way to motivate her to walk with me at least 30 minutes per day for the next 30 days.

Mom would like to be as fit as I am

We'd also like to encourage others to take the challenge with us.  To be happy and healthy, we doggies need to get out and walk.  And our humans need it just as much as we do, if not more so.

A number of other bloggers are participating in the challenge (see We Aren't Walking Alone) and we hope more will join us.  We will try to post weekly progress updates on Fridays (but may end up posting these on Saturday or Sunday).

Let's get moving!

  1. We're doing the challenge. I just hope the bug that caught our mom will soon move on. we did do our 30 minutes this a.m. though.
BTW, you do look very fit!!! :)

  2. Garth buddy you're in! That's so kewl...Mom & I did our first one this morning...we go out before the sun is up so we see the sunrise on our way home...and like your mom she's really glad we get out there...it's just a matter of sufficient caffiene intake (not sure what it is with hoomins and their coffee) And yes pal you are looking mighty buff in that photo

  3. Awesome Garth, I know you and your mom will have tons of fun on your walks!

  4. Wow that sounds like a great idea and a great way to start the new year.

Wishing you all a Happy New Year.
We hope 2013 is a good one for you and the year is filled with joy and fun.

    Best wishes Molly

  6. Great idea!
Mummy and I go out every morning so I'll be cheering from the sidelines for you:-)

  7. Garth! The same thing happens here. Momma is so grouchy about walking in the dark, especially when it is icy. I always tell her that with all those clothes on she will just bounce if she falls down.

We'll do at least thirty minutes a day with you, but not on daycare days since I am just too tired then. I will tell momma to jump around to one of her "skinny bitches" DVDs on those days.

  8. How cool. Good luck and have fun

  9. that's awesome Garthie! Mama and Daddy does walkings too (Daddy more than Mama), and it certainly is good for excercisings and also clearing the cobwebs from the brain. I wish you many lucks on your challenge!
