Farewell Huguenot Bridge

Sunday was Huguenot Bridge Day.  For one day, the Virginia Department of Transportation allowed people to walk across the old Huguenot Bridge before they tear it down.

We went really early so we could enjoy the bridge before it got too hot.  The sun was just coming up and the river was like glass.

The James River, looking East from the Huguenot Bridge
Shouldn't we still be in bed?

Not only could we walk across the bridge, we could write on it!!!

We even got a commemorative koozie
It was fun to walk across the bridge

But I wanna' be IN the river, not walking over it

I'd say it's time to replace it

You can see the ground through this hole in the bridge

Goodbye Huguenot Bridge

  8. Hey Garth!
Wow, what a fun adventure! So sorry about the bridge, but it definitely looks like it's time for it to go. Love that you got to paw your name on it. That's fun!

  9. Always sad to have to say goodbye to a bridge. Hopefully there is something really good taking its place. If it is as hot there as it is here, we bet you really would rather be IN the river instead of above it:)

We will have a silly pic for you tomorrow. Stay tuned.

  17. Garth what a beautiful bridge and scenery. We are so glad you and the peeps got one last walk on it. We were wondering why they were tearing it down then we saw that it was indeed showing its age.
